I need to get my parents medical insurance they have never had one. And I was wondering where do I start? What do I look for? Any tips or advice are appreciated!

Well, first of all, you get quotes. The best way to do this is through a local agent.

Depending on how old they are, and WHY they’ve never had insurance (most of the time, it’s because they’ve lived outside the US), it could be impossible to find a company willing to insure them.

So ask a local agent for help. Start with the guy who does your car insurance, and if he can’t help you, ask him for a referral to someone who can.

Realize, if they’re PERFECTLY HEALTHY, it’s going to cost about $ 100 a month, EACH, for each decade they’ve lived. example: If you’re 60, it’s going to cost AT LEAST $ 600 a month. Each.

If you’re looking for a $ 50 a month plan, don’t bother – you’re just wasting everyone’s time.

Basic liability insurance will cover the other driver up to your limit. Did you have any auto insurance? If not, you are in deep !#$ $ $ . If you do than it should already be covered.

My friend’s father died recently. Twenty years ago, her father took out a small life insurance policy to pay for his funeral expenses. The beneficiary is my friend’s stepmother. The stepmother doesn’t even recall a life insurance policy. She wonders if he had cashed it out. How can my friend find out if a life insurance policy still exists? Those unclaimed fund sites don’t usually include life insurance policies, and the life insurance company may not know that a death has occurred.

You are right about the unclaimed sites – the best you could do is to go through his papers and canceled checks to find payments or policy information – maybe check a safety deposit box or old shoe box in the closet – no telling what he used as a file cabinet.

I don’t make that much money probably only about 200-300 dollars a month so I wanted to know where i could get the cheapest car insurance in ME. i don’t want to do a car quote now because I am not old enough and I don’t actually have my license and a car now but I would just like an average or what around what the cheapest cost is. We can’t tell you; we don’t have rate books here and Maine is a big state. Your best bet to start out with would be the company you’re with now–your parents’–and ask them; they know you and your record. After that, try the Yellow Pages.

My health insurance is through my employer but I have to pay part of the premium and it is deducted from my paycheck each pay period. I am filing my taxes and am being asked if the premiums are paid for with after-tax dollars. Any answers?

They are with after-tax dollars unless you are participating in a section 125 plan or the like.

im 15, about to turn 16 and want to get a motorcycle. i only have a few dirtbikes that aren’t street legal and im thinking about getting a 1993 gsx750r this july for my bday. how much would i expect to pay for the insurance? i live in a rural area so it SHOULD cost less right?
i don’t want to give them my social security or my street adress… thats what all of them keep asking.
once again, i will say this only once again. I DON’T WANT TO GIVE THEM MY ADRESS OR MY SOCIAL SECURITY. thats why i am wanting someone to tell me how much THEY pay a month. easy as that.

Yeah – it should cost less technically. I would look online – and compare a few insurance places and get a general idea of how much it costs overall and then pick the cheapest one. I would say its very affordable. Being 16 doesnt help but maintain a B average and your payments will be lowered.

What would be best amount of total coverage to carry for auto insurance and homeowners insurance including an umbrella policy. I realize claims are skyrocketing, and I don’t presently have an umbrella policy. Would like to know what I should be targeting. Thanks!

Well, no one here knows you! I can tell you what I usually tell people: you take out half million limits on your auto and homeowners, then get the umbrella policy with whatever REAL limits you need. It’s not hard to buy million dollar increments, up to ten million. After that, it can be done, but it’s harder.

You need to have an umbrella policy that covers your assets, PLUS three to five years income. So. Figure out what your stuff is worth, and add your projected income for the next three years, and round up to the next million.
