It will vary a great deal depending on the type of small business. Some “main street” business policies are known as Business Owners Policy (BOP) and they can be as little as $ 500 per year, sometimes less expensive if the insurance market is “soft”. Other small businesses can carry a much higher level of risk and, therefore, a MUCH higher premium. (Sometimes in the tens of thousands of dollars per year.)
There really isn’t an average price for small business insurance.

My boyfriend and his friend have a small car detailing business that they started themselves. I’m pretty sure they have a business license. However, they don’t have any form of insurance. Can they get in trouble if they drive the clients’ cars without car insurance or something for their business? What happens if they damage one of the vehicles if they have no insurance?

Insurance mainly covers you in the event you are sued. Lawyers cost $ 200 – $ 500 per hour plus court fees, dispositions, and witness fees.

I guess it depends on where your located and whats in the business (equipment). I own a Game Center Cafe and it’s about 75 a month. Not bad.

You’ll need to talk to a local, independent agent, licensed in your state. No standard carriers are going to write a garage policy on a new business – heck, most won’t write a garage policy on an existing business.
So your application will be submitted to the facility auto, assigned risk, whatever the state run pool is called, in your state.

I live in Buffalo NY. My friend and I are thinking about starting a home repair and minor remodeling business. We would do everything from roofing to painting. 2 work vehicles and just the 2 of us as employees. Do not need medical, just liability and Workers Comp.

While workers comp is probably a good idea it isn’t required if just the owners are working. Roofing Work comp is one of the higher cost businesses you could be in.
In addition to the liability insurance you will need insurance for the trucks as well. If they are your own trucks they may not be covered for business use under your personal auto policy.
All that said the easiest way to find out the cost is call 2 or 3 local agents. There is a lot of information that you haven’t posted here they will need to get you a correct quote.

so im working on a business project for my class and i am stumped on one part of my project. its part of a human resource part where i am to figure out wages and such. and a requirement is insurance that my company provides for my employees. im just wondering what type of insurance would a small company provide for its employees as well as costs. this company is only going to be run by 5 or 6 people but it is still a requirement for my project.

Workers Compensation in Australia. Depending of the business, there is a formula to calculate this from wages and other payments to workers.
For a small business around 1% of wages + super + long service leave paid, etc

it is a lot cheaper than that depends on the industry that your business is in but general liability is close to 2 or 3 hundred a year. i work for a company that deals with small business owners with general liability everyday.
