What would happen to health insurance companies if government take over the health insurance system?

Question by John A: What would happen to health insurance companies if government take over the health insurance system?
Correct me if I’m wrong, but I heard that Obama is trying to push a public health system that will allow everybody to have health insurance no matter what pre existing conditions he or she may have.
If this is reached, what would happen to insurance carriers like Blue Cross, Blue Shield? Will we need these companies and health insurance agents?

I’m looking for health insurance that I can get that’s cheap (I don’t really care about quality, I just need the insurance within a few weeks). What are some cheap options and how long does it take to get approval? Also, less importantly, what are the steps to get insurance?

My mother in law is here in Japan on a short term visa(3 months). She had sprained her hand in India while coming here and is bothering her a lot. We heard that it would be very costly in the hospitals without medical insurance. As she might need to take xray and other medicines. We would like to know how we can take medical insurance for foreign nationals on short term visa in Japan. I thank u in advance for answering my query.

I’d suggest that you call the embassy of your country in Japan.
I’m not sure what policies Japan has about foreigners in Japan, but I would think that you would have to get insurance from your own country or at least through your country you could ask about this?
List of Embassies, Consulates, and International Organizations in Japan:

I hope this helps. Also, I would suggest that you keep your question open for others to answer.

Call Geico and Progressive.
Don’t do this online – pick up the phone and call them.
Get a high deductible plan, and make sure you have those funds in a savings account
